Archival Fellow

Reports to: Executive Director, Lead Research Associate

Part time (up to 20 hours)

The New Orleans African American Museum is in search of a fellow to work in our Research and Archives Department for the Fall semester. This position requires a highly detailed and very organized person who is extremely professional, likes problem solving in a start-up environment and is a system's thinker. Experience working in museum or arts nonprofits helpful but not necessary.


Scope of work

  • Assist with registering all of the museum’s archives and implementation of archival process

  • Registering the museum’s archives digitally

  • Create a final project to be presented at the end of the fellowship that showcases the museum’s archives from the fellow’s perspective

  • Attend weekly Staff Meetings and provide updates on progress in the Archives Department


Archival Fellow requirements

  • Current candidate for Museum Studies, Art History/History, African American Studies or Arts Administration degree

  • Google Suite, video conferencing, Excel

  • Experience working in archives, research, or collections departments

  • Excellent communication, verbal and written skills


Time and compensation

  • $1200 - $400 per month

  • Academic credit

  • 10-20 hours per week
